As an organist and church music director, I put my knowledge of music theory, composition, and performance to use in my daily work. I enjoy working with students to help them develop their own creative skills and prepare for music-related coursework.
I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory (summa cum laude) and wrote a thesis developing new approaches in music theory to acquiring improvisation skills at the keyboard for 17th-century styles.
During my studies, I spent extensive time in Germany (Munich) enrolled at the city's Musikhochschule and conducted research on preserved historical organs throughout the country.
I have a diverse array of teaching experiences including giving flute lessons to middle/high school students, tutoring university students in music theory, and working with adult clients in Germany to improve their English skills at all levels. I strive to find ways for students to be themselves and reinforce their knowledge by practically making use of new ideas in creative pursuits.
When not at the keyboard, you can find me hiking in the hills, lugging my telescope outside on a clear night, and probably adding a bit too much garlic to my latest recipe.
