I have a BS from Carnegie Mellon University, with a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics. I am currently pursing my PhD in CS at UIUC, with research focusing on combinatorial optimization.
I have over 5 years of experience as a teaching assistant for CS and Math courses, including topics such as introductory proofs, discrete math, and algorithms. My TA work at Carnegie Mellon earned me the Alan J. Perlis Student teaching award, which is given to only two students a year. This TA work has included both giving lectures on course material and working with students one-on-one to help solve problems.
I have experience tutoring students in SAT and ACT math, as well as in calculus.
I love math, and I love finding ways to help students understand and get excited about mathematical concepts. In my teaching I try to focus on helping students learn how to think about problems. I also like to emphasize connections between new material and topics that the student is already familiar with to help them see how mathematics fits together and how they can apply their existing knowledge to new problems.
If you're interested or if you have any questions, please reach out! I'd be happy to talk to you!
