Ashley: Greenburgh tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate student pursuing my master's degree in Applied Linguistics at Grand Valley State University. I also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in French with a minor in Arabic; I've been learning French since 2011 and Arabic since 2016.
I'm all about flexibility and working with learners to find ways of learning and practicing that work best for them. My approach in tutoring is to use each learner's unique skills and knowledge to help them reach their goals; there is no one-size-fits-all method in learning!
As for my education and experience in tutoring, my graduate program has a focus on training future educators, so I'm well-versed in effective ways to teach languages. I've recently taken classes in teaching reading and writing, second language acquisition, English grammar, and teaching English as a second language. I've been tutoring English continually since 2017, when I first tutored at a women's advocacy group in Morocco. I also have experience teaching English to elementary students in France.
For my paper-editing and writing skills, I've taken undergraduate courses that have called for many different approaches to writing, like studying literature, using foreign languages in diplomatic and political settings, writing scientific reports, writing research proposals, and doing graduate-level research. I'm especially well-versed in writing in APA style.
I'm an intensely curious and idea-oriented person, so learning and helping others to learn is a lifelong passion of mine. Let's ace those tests, nail those essays, and learn as much as we can along the way!
