Certified Tutor

In May 2020, I graduated from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English & Media and Communication with a minor in Italian language studies. As a tutor at my college, I worked with students ranging from recent high school graduates to graduate students. Over the course of my four years as a tutor, I was able to form rapports with many students, whom I would see from week to week, semester to semester, and even year to year. Watching these students progress has fueled my zeal for tutoring, which all starts on day one with each new student. As an English major, I am incredibly passionate about reading, writing, and the teaching of English itself. Within this field, I tutor a wide spread of topics, which includes writing and literary conventions, essay organization, study tactics, and reading comprehension, among a number of others. My favorite of these subjects to tutor is writing; helping someone to see the subject I love most from a new point of view is one of the most rewarding aspects of being an English tutor. My methodologies and philosophy surrounding tutoring are rooted in what I have learned from studying English and Communication; the way we learn language and language conventions is personal, and I believe that tailoring each learning experience to serve every individual is the cornerstone of productive and successful education and tutelage. Apart from academia, I love reading everything from nonfiction to poetry, singing whenever and wherever possible, and spending lots of time outside. And, I absolutely love the color yellow.

Hobbies

Some of my interests and hobbies include spending time outside, skiing, soccer, reading, writing, singing, and spending time with my friends and family. I am interested in editing and publishing, which I was able to explore through ANGLES, my college’s literary magazine, and my internship with BOA Editions, Ltd., a Rochester-based publisher. As a sophomore in college, I helped to start a ski team at St. John Fisher, which I raced for for two seasons. In 2019, I was able to study abroad in Florence, Italy, and had the absolute time of my life! Throughout my four years at Fisher, I was also part of my school’s a Capella group, Drastic Measures, which led to performing at events across campus and throughout the Rochester community.
