Lisa: Western Springs tutor
Certified Tutor
I have taught at numerous schools, colleges and universities over the years on a part-time, adjunct, and full-time basis. The subjects I have taught include introductory Oceanography, Environmental Science, Earth Science, and Geography. I have also taught general science and Biology at the middle/high school levels.
My passion in life has always been teaching. To be effective as a teacher it is imperative that you recognize that all students learn in different styles, i.e. visual, aural, verbal, physical, or logical. The teaching methods you employ will depend on theses styles and can include visual aids, sound or music, spoken or written words, or touch/tactile. My approach has always been to use a combination of these methods to ensure success in reaching all students.
As we now move more and more into remote/virtual online learning it is imperative to employ as many technological methods and techniques as possible. In my experiences in online teaching I have used a combination of videos, interactive maps, slide presentations, discussion boards, web links, online quizzes, games, and social media to ensure collaboration amongst the students. Maintaining students' interest throughout the learning process is imperative to ensuring their success. It is the teacher's role to make this happen.
