I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My primary aspiration and objective, as a tutor, is to provide each tutelage with the structure necessary to be an effective problem solver and autodidact for life.
To achieve this goal I modify my teaching style to not merely facilitate rote memorization instruction; but also provide the proper heuristic toolbox to solve problems in accordance with the individuals' particular comprehension challenge.

For example, Using Real World strategies across the curriculum not only informs a student, but teaches him/her where to find the solution and how to apply it. I have used this methodology throughout my teaching career.

I began teaching in a pre-school program called Get Set and before becoming a certified middle school teacher, majoring in Language Art and minoring in Social Studies, I spent several years as a recreation director. Each of my career choices helped me to employ Best Practices when it comes to tutoring.

I prefer teaching K-3 subjects because these are a child's fundamental years and I want to make sure, the students I instruct have a strong foundation in the basics.

I leave you with this:
My favorite subject to teach is Study Skills because the student who knows how to do a thing will always have a job; but the student who knows why a thing works will always be called boss.
