I'm a rising junior at Columbia University in New York majoring in English. On campus, I'm the managing editor for a campus magazine and the leader of a screenwriting workshop. Needless to say, I love to write and to work with other people on their writing.
We're so often given the impression that you either "get" reading and writing, or you don't. I firmly disagree. I want to push my students to discover an idea or even a word that piques their curiosity in everything they read. Then, I show them how they can bring this same excitement to their own writing. Generating this enthusiasm can create a powerful domino effect for students: As their arguments become more interesting to them, they become more willing to revise their writing to make it as lucid and coherent as possible. Smart kids often get away with cloaking a flimsy argument in superfluous language. I want my students to realize that the strongest writing strikes a balance between clarity and precisionI hope to help them encounter that rush of excitement that comes from finding exactly the right word for what they want to say.
That said, I'm an omnivorous learnerin high school, my claim to fame was being head of both the poetry club and the Science Olympiad teamand I would be both thrilled and prepared to tutor in a variety of subjects, including SAT/ACT prep.

You will probably be unsurprised to learn that I love to read and write, even when I’m not “forced” to do it for school. I also watch a lot of movies, both for fun and for my internship at a film distribution company. Finally, I love to cook, and at Columbia, I live in a food-themed house where we have nightly potlucks!
