Life and school are intense full-time jobs which can feel like reading an instruction manual. My passion for tutoring comes from helping others figure out unique ways to apply different study skills and learning strategies that work best for a particular student any grade or skill level to help them solve problems in school and their everyday lives for about seven years. I want to help students realize they already have the tools and background knowledge to figure out practically any problem through reason, rational and logic. School can feel impossible to understand, but the skills taught to unpack and analyze Shakespeare are the same ones used to breakdown cars, sporting events or movies. The ability to generalize any information and make the connections that all subjects are linked in one way or another will help students understand the method to figure out and clearly explain the process they used to find the answer.

Through copious education classes at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Department of Education, I have taken teaching literature in middle and high school, teaching special education in all grade levels, using technology to increase digital literacy, classroom management, and several other courses to help give me the tools to differentiate and modify my lessons to meet my student's individual needs. I have worked with students who were below grade level and helped to get them back to grade level within one to two school years. I was also a private tutor to students with a wide array of disabilities to help them meet their goals.

I started my college career off at Augusta University (AU) in Georgia in 2011 where I was a Psychology major for a year and a half. I transferred in 2016 to UNLV where I switched my major to Secondary Education with a focus in English (it means to teach high school English). I have once again decided to go back to AU to finish my bachelor's degree in English Literature. All of these degree paths help me to see the different point of views of a subject and analyze the information in many different circumstances.

The subjects I tutor are reading, writing and study skills. Each of these are important and my favorite to work on for different reasons.

Reading is perhaps the subject I put the most emphasis on at first in my sessions. Mainly because being able to access the information and understand the material on their own is important to succeed in anything anyone wants to do in the future. In having the confidence in their own abilities to access the information, students are able to solve problems quickly and efficiently.

In different jobs there are varying rules for people to be heard; like in schools, a tech company, or law firm. Great writing is the key to be noticed in these settings and to be successful. I want my students to feel like they cracked the code in writing great essays for school and in whatever future job they want to apply for down the road by understanding how the topic affects the flow of their writing.

When students can utilize study skills, strategies and organization systems to help keep school from taking over a person's life. This allows everyone the time to enjoy themselves on their own schedule. Study skills helps to train our minds to think and attack problems in a systematic way.

Hobbies

My interests and hobbies outside of school and work are exploring new places and hobbies. Also I love animals, books, music, old movies, TV shows and brain teaser puzzles. I have recently gotten back into art (painting and drawing) and have set goals for myself to get better at creating semi-realistic paintings/drawings. My love of traveling comes from growing up as a military dependent and living in Europe for several years when I was in middle and high school. I really enjoy learning new skills as well.
