I find it rewarding to help others develop more competence and understanding as students. This led me to begin tutoring, and playing a meaningful role in students' progress inspires me to be as effective as possible. As a graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Bioengineering, I have in-depth experience with the natural sciences, as well as mathematics and academic writing. While I scored fairly well on the SAT, standardized test preparation is not my main strength; my knowledge and experience better suit me to help with content mastery and problem-solving skills.
Overall, my style is quite relaxed and highly focused on individuals' needs and goals. I began tutoring formally with my high school's Math Honor Society in 2014. In addition, I have worked with many classmates, friends, and family members informally, whether it be in-home, over an internet chat, or in the classroom. Since becoming an online tutor in 2020, I have worked formally with many middle and high school students on learning algebra, trigonometry, chemistry, biology, and more. After graduating college in 2021, I expanded my services into study skills coaching and writing tutoring.
With math, I focus on teaching problem-solving methods in a step-by-step manner. I have worked with middle school students on passing classes, with high school students on achieving A-level grades, and many cases in-between. With science, I do my best to demystify complex concepts by breaking down the basics and then emphasizing how things work together. As with math, I begin by addressing students' coursework and interests. I can also provide tutoring support in writing, as I have written a variety of papers and developed a fairly strong sense of how to construct a well-written document or essay.
