From my personal experience, I know how valuable it is to have opportunity; opportunity to learn, to ask, and to explore. As a young person, I fortunately was given this chance, and as a result a desire for lifelong learning was instilled in me. Now, as an educator, I want to provide that opportunity to others as they embark on their own journeys, and that's why I've chosen this career path.
I've enjoyed volunteering locally with African refugees and immigrants for about five years, and I'm learning French and Swahili to better communicate with them. I've enjoyed learning more about their cultures and stories while also forging lasting friendships. In addition, I've been an online ESL teacher for almost three years mostly teaching students in Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Just as I'm able to impart something to them I, likewise, have gained so much from my eager, international students. For some years I also enjoyed working in public libraries, an institution that was crucial to my education and that I still value and support today.
I obtained my bachelors in Education with a minor in Language Education. I am also TEFL and TESOL certified to teach English to non-native speakers.
In my free time I enjoy expressing my creativity through art such as music, illustration, and crafting. I've been playing guitar for five years, and I've been drawing since forever. My new projects include embroidering and jewelry making and writing music. I like playing video games, but these days I mostly watch other people play on YouTube. When the weather's nice, you can find me walking or long-boarding (aka falling down a lot) in my neighborhood.
I'm looking forward to connecting with even more people on this platform. Learning can be fun, and I want to show you how.
