Certified Tutor

I am an English teacher currently in my 9th year of teaching. I earned my Bachelor's Degree and teaching license through Radford University. I also have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Regent University. All of my teaching experience has been working at the high school level (grades 9-12), but my teaching license includes the middle school grades as well (grades 6-8). I also have teaching experience in co-taught classrooms, where I worked with a special education teacher and differentiated my lessons and activities to meet the needs of students with accommodations and disabilities. I am most passionate about teaching and tutoring reading skills and literature, but I also have teaching experience in writing skills. For the first 8 school years of my teaching experience, I prepared students for a Reading standardized test required for graduation. For 7 of the 8 previous years in teaching, I also prepared students for a Writing standardized test required for graduation. I believe that all students can learn. I believe that all students learn differently. When I was in high school and college, my jobs outside of school were babysitting and teaching in a day care setting. My day care jobs involved working with young children, as young as infants and as old as elementary school age. I believe I have the best qualities of a tutor because I am an expert in the curricula I've been teaching, I have experience differentiating my lessons and explanations for students of all achievement levels, and I have the patience required to try, try again when I give an explanation or lesson and a student still does not understand. My hobbies include reading (mostly fiction) for pleasure, running (to train for Half Marathon races), and traveling.
