Certified Tutor

I am an experienced educator with certifications in seven areas:
1) Director of Special Education
2) Mild to Moderate Mentally Handicapped
3) Specific Learning Disabilities
4) Secondary Education, Social Studies
5) Elementary Education
6) Reading
7) Elementary School Principal

I was in the classroom for approximately 20 years and at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) for almost 30 years. I taught every grade, other than 4th, including college. During my time at MDE I was deeply involved with compliance, the IEP process and working out conflicts between districts and parents. I excel at helping to disentangle education issues for students whom districts may consider difficult. I'm available for tutoring alone, as well as helping parents navigate the IEP process if desired.

I consider it a privilege, as well as a lot of fun, to work with individual students! I love helping students discover and use their power and strength; figuring out what their "little three-pounder" (their brain) can do.

Reading, writing, speaking: language is about getting an idea from one person's brain to another's. I can teach a young child, or an adult, to read, and it's a fun and powerful process. I have the certification to do this as well as the knowledge, skills, and desire. What a wonderful adventure!

On a personal note, I have a child with a disability and am aware of the impact that can have in a family.
