Certified Tutor

Hello! I retired from public school education in 2008 after teaching for 33 years. A graduate of Kent State University, I obtained a B.S.Ed. in 1975, I graduated with a dual major in Special Education K-12 and Elementary Education 1-8. I was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an Education Honorary. For 18 years, I worked primarily with students who had more severe learning issues and behavior problems. I was department chair at one of the schools and was chosen to be trained as a Praxis Mentor when the State of Ohio was piloting the program. Our school district was one of five and I was one of ten teachers within the district who was asked to do so. In 1994, I completed a dual Masters Degree from Kent State University in Library and Information Science with School Library Media. While in the School of Library and Information Science, I wrote a lesson that was published in School Library Media Activities Monthly. I was then recruited by a different school district to work as a Librarian in a middle school so I left my classroom position and was a School Librarian for 15 years before I retired. Library and Research were part of the 6th Grade and Special Education curriculum, so I not only ran the Library, but I continued to teach. During my career, I conducted several classroom management workshops and wrote over a dozen successful grants to obtain more materials and money for my classroom and students. One of the grants was a $150,000 LSTA Grant used to automate the middle and high school libraries in my district. After the State adopted the Praxis, I was hired to mentor new teachers, and that experience led me to my retirement job of supervising student teaching candidates for several midsize and large universities. I am not ready to totally retire, and I love working with students. I have gotten as much of an education from them as they have from me. My favorite subjects are Language Arts and Reading and Science, but I am trained to teach all of the subjects at the elementary level and all grades for students with special needs. My work with student teachers has also given me experience with the testing and the EdTPA. If any of what I have written interests you, please feel free to give me a try. I will do my best and am looking forward to this new adventure

Hobbies

I have two wonderful and successful children, a son and a daughter; a stepdaughter, and 3 grandchildren. They are the most important people in my life, are a source of pride, and I love them. My children are adults, so I spend more time with my grandchildren and enjoy them more that words can describe. They are bright and funny, and I enjoy doing projects, dancing with them and reading to them. My other passions are reading and cooking. I belong to a book club so I have gotten to read and discuss some wonderful literature, and I am a "foodie" who cooks constantly. My children are also good cooks and I am passing my skills on to my grandchildren. When I can, I love to travel, and I really enjoy the beach. I find the world to be an interesting place and hope to be able to see more of it.
