*Education is one of the most valuable experiences in life. Knowing how much confidence and advantage schooling has brought me, I want to help others make the most out of theirs, too. Everyone deserves that sense of pride from completing and acing a tough assignment.Throughout high school and college I worked with younger and fellow students on test preparation and essays covering history (or social studies), art history, English, and literature both formally and informally. I received my associate's degree that included liberal arts courses like bio, American literature, and psychology, then received my Bachelor's from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Illustration with concentrations in book arts and game arts. While my main field is in visual arts, I have spent a lot of my time reading and studying philosophy, and literature which has further developed my critical reading and writing skills. My teaching philosophy is to first do my best to understand the student's struggles and goals with their subject, then work on the best strategies from there to overcome those struggles and reach those goals. A crucial step in a one-on-one lesson especially is taking time to listen to and address these areas of improvement together. While the teacher/instructor/tutor is there to lead with their own skills and experience, they and the student must also think of themselves as a team--willing to both put in their best to reach the goal. My tutoring involves sharing prompts and exercises that help a student approach an assignment in a different way and to patiently work through these exercises again and again. The more a student can return to a topic, the more familiarity and comfort they gain with it.Outside academia and art, I love to swing dance, explore neighborhoods on bike and foot, cook, and watch movies with friends. I'm a big documentary and podcast nerd, but I also love comedy movies and shows to unwind.
