As an Astronomy and Astrobiology PhD student at the University of Washington, my scientific interests are largely interdisciplinary. My work primarily focuses on the physics and chemistry of the atmospheres of planets outside our solar system, but my work also significantly overlaps with the work of biologists, chemists, geophysicists, and even philosophers in my field. As a scientist, I am dedicated to honing an expertise in exoplanet astronomy while also developing a working knowledge of biology, chemistry, and geophysics in order to better contextualize my work.
As an aspiring scientist, I am also devoted to effective scientific communication. Throughout my education and career, I have dedicated myself to inspiring people of all ages to learn more about our captivating universe. Similarly, it is critical to me to share the story of my career path to inspire students to consider a career in scientific research.
I understand that many students may struggle with their science classes, and certainly not because they are incapable or lack talent. From my own experiences in high school and undergraduate STEM programs, I understand that the material is frequently taught poorly and/or in uninteresting ways that can make it difficult for students to succeed. I am excited to help any student struggling with their science classes to improve their confidence in studying difficult subjects!
