I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Jennie Thomas
My name is Jennie Thomas and I am currently a dedicated student at the University of Houston Downtown seeking a Bachelor's of Arts degree and finishing up my last semester. I will be graduating with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies in December of 2018. I was originally born in Massachusetts but I was brought to Texas due to my family and I have always wanted to go back. I am an independent, hard working, assertive, open minded person. I have a passion for education and I know that someday my job in this field will be better than I could ever imagine. As a young girl I knew I wanted to be a teacher but at the time this career was frowned upon. It was not until later, once I became an adult that I did not let anyone tell me what my passion was anymore and I went for it. I will never regret making the decision to follow my heart and pursue a teaching degree because it has been the best thing I have ever done.
I believe that education is the key to success and this would be a great opportunity for me to show my inner strengths and abilities. I am known to be very kind, understanding, and helpful in times of trouble. I am very keen on punctuality, and attendance is very important to me. I do well under pressure and I know that I can work well in the teaching field very well, as I am gaining experience already. Problem solving is one of my strong suits and I know that my organizational skills will work well for me especially when having to work towards a Master's degree. Many times people may say that their parents are their motivation to getting through life and making it where they are today but I have to say otherwise. My parents have gotten me here, that is for sure but they also did not think I would make it to apply for a Master's degree. I am not here to show them I can do it, but to show them that with hard work and diligence anything is possible.
As a young girl since that seed was planted into my head I never really thought of continuing education until I recently had a strike of hope. I am now student teaching and observing in Elementary schools and I remember just thinking to myself that although I am not these children's teacher I am making a difference, so why wouldn't I strive for success? I used to long to go to such great schools but I was told that I would never make it, but that ends now. As an uprising teacher I know that I can make an impact in children's lives everyday and for me this is one step closer to achieving that goal. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and I think this is my time to do something that I did not think I could do. It may sound silly to others, but Massachusetts is my home and it will be forever. As a person that believes in herself, I think that if I want to someday go back home and also get my Master's degree I can do it with no questions asked. I have to believe in myself before others can believe in me and I am ready to do something greater.
