Education is an individual journey: we guide our attention to what we find exciting and motivating. My personal academic interests are broad. At Gustavus Adolphus College, a liberal arts college in southern Minnesota, I double-majored in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Classical Studies. Like many of the students I have tutored I am interested in eventually becoming a physician. I have taken the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) and scored a 520 which falls in the 98th percentile. The test is broken down into four components as follows: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems (I scored a 132; 100th percentile), Critical Analysis and Reading Skills (129; 95th percentile), Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems (130; 96th percentile), and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior (129; 90th percentile). Overall, I attribute my success on this demanding 7-hour exam to hard-work, effective studying techniques, and excellent mentorship. If you are excited to practice medicine and motivated to put in time and effort; I know that I can help you find great success.
Varsity Tutors offers an excellent platform for us to work together through tough problems and emerge understanding important concepts and test-taking strategies. Solving problems and learning material is indispensable practice for the MCAT, however I also want to offer you the tools maximize your time and energy by teaching you how to learn. This is a meta-skill that will be important throughout undergrad and well into medical school. Essentially, should I give you a fish or should I teach you how to fish. I am offering both so that you can achieve scores that will help you find a place in medical school.
I've studied the MCAT thoroughly and continue to investigate metacognition i.e. learning about learning, but as a side note I would like to open myself to students in other disciplines that fall under the large umbrella of the MCAT. I am certainly able to help you just as well.
Finally, I miss the days I studied the Latin, admiring the intricacies of a dead yet universal language. I look fondly on the epic tales from history's greatest storytellers like Ovid and Virgil or debates from the unrivalled orator, Cicero. Whether you are just venturing out and giving it a try or are a seasoned linguist I think I can help you study Latin - or the MCAT, totally up to you. With that, I wish you the best of luck and 'ave atque vale'.
