Certified Tutor

As a Cancer Drug Discovery Scientist with a long track record of academic scientific research as well as tutoring experiences, I believe that I can contribute to the program as a tutor to help you with immediate academic needs as well as inspire you to pursue careers in STEM in the future.

As a peer tutor for a college physics course at Boston University, I had to communicate with students at different levels, backgrounds, and different learning styles. This required patience when listening to my students' questions and concerns, even with some of them being non-native English speakers with difficulty articulating their questions about quantum physics and Newton's laws. Seeing their reactions when a previously foreign concept became clear was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my academic career. Moreover, as part of community service program, Wizards, I led weekly after-school science classes to invigorate interests in science and promote scientific reasoning in STEM education amongst primary school student in the urban Boston area. Demonstrating how to make an ice cream and teaching them colligative properties that drive this process, I brainstormed ideas to not only engage the students but also help them learn the science behind each experiment. Through interacting with students and sharing knowledge to break down complex scientific concepts to simpler ideas, I solidified my communication skills and patience for those whom I serve. I hope to apply what I have learned as a tutor for you. Working with students to make a positive influence has been a rewarding experience I was privileged to be a part of and hope to continue to do so as a tutor at Varsity Tutors
