Hello all! I am Mariah, and I am currently in my senior year of college in Las Vegas! I am studying to be an elementary school teacher, and I am currently student teaching in first grade. I have previously taught 5th grade, but I have been in first for half a year now. I am so excited to graduate and become a teacher! I am the oldest of three children, so teaching has always come naturally to me. I am well qualified to teach all subjects K-8, and although my degree does not entail them, there are a few upper-level subjects that I find intriguing and would love to tutor as well. I was recommended to Varsity Tutors by a fellow teacher, who loves tutoring in her evenings. I thought this platform would be a wonderful way to expand my teaching skills while helping you expand your subject skills!
Outside of tutoring, I love to craft. I am very artsy, and you will find me making anything from jewelry to tshirts to custom Disney Mickey ears. I love doing yoga; it is a wonderful form of exercise and helps me to calm my mind. I also enjoy traveling in my free time, as well as spending as much time as I can with family and friends.
When it comes to my teaching philosophy, I am all about social-emotional learning. I believe that respect is one of the most important parts of teaching, and students that like their teachers like to learn from them. This fits very nicely with tutoring as well. I would like to get to know you and your interests, so I can better tailor your tutoring experience to fit your needs. I so look forward to meeting with you and helping you to grow and learn!
