I hope this statement presents you with an ideal candidate for a tutor position with Varsity Tutors. With over five years of teaching-related experience, I am confident in my ability to effectively become an asset to Varsity Tutors.
I am a graduate of Tennessee State University, where I earned a degree in English Literature and Psychology. Also, I am currently on-track to receive my Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling, in 2019. In addition to these degrees, I have worked the last few years in the mental health field, where my demographic included youth from ages 13 to 18 years of age.
During my time at these mental health facilities, I worked directly with youth (in both therapeutic and classroom settings) with mental disorders, behavioral issues, and/or learning disabilities, in order to get them back on-task with their education and every day skills needed to be successful once they completed the programs. Because of their age, most of my tasks included interactive efforts to bridge therapy and education in a way that made treatment collaborative and tangible.
I have developed a philosophy that all students have the capacity to learn and I value the unique qualities of each student. I expect all learners to be present and demonstrate effort to maximize every tutoring session. I thrive to create a fun and inspiring environment for all students while fostering positive reinforcement.
By displaying an outgoing personality, communicating well with my students, and being inspirational, the values I possess will ultimately develop a strong guidance for my students as they explore and grow. I look forward to meeting new students and exploring the ways in which I can contribute to the continued success of the community that Varsity Tutors is fostering!
