I graduated with a BA in Art History and English from Skidmore College in May 2018. I love learning, which is one of the main reasons I chose to take on an intensive double major while also holding leadership positions in campus clubs.
I'm excited to tutor English, as literature has been a lifelong love of mine, and something I always knew I wanted to pursue. Through my double major I honed my writing, research, and critical thinking skills, all of which have served me well.
When I taught skiing, I found that the most effective way to teach was by connecting what the student was there to learn with things they enjoyed. While skiing and academia are different, both require a strong base of knowledge to pull from. It is so important to cultivate a passion for learning, so that no matter the subject, the student can feel confident and want to do their best. If it becomes only about the academia and the joy is left out, I have found that the student is more likely to become discouraged when the subject gets difficult.
As I mentioned, I love learning, and therefore try to take myself out of my comfort zone. Sometimes that takes the form of reading a new book, baking a new kind of bread, or trying something completely new.
