I am currently studying Literature and French at Stockton University. My goal is to earn my PhD (potentially from Princeton or Rutgers) and teach English at the university level. In my senior year of high school, I participated in the SILC program, where I essentially served as a student teacher for a French 1 class. All my students were high school freshmen or sophomores. Through this experience, I found that treating my students as unique individuals is more effective than having the same simple student-teacher relationship with every student. I like to have fun when I teach, and understand that some topics may be difficult and will require taking a break and returning later. I want my students to WANT to learn rather than try to teach them forcefully. Learning comes much more naturally when a student is willing and engaged.
Next summer, I will be studying abroad for a month in Grenoble, France. In the summer of 2017, I had the life-changing opportunity to tour Europe with a choir group. We visited various towns in Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, and Belgium. Now I am itching to travel abroad again as soon as possible! I hope to visit Japan within the next few years, to reunite with the Japanese exchange student that stayed with my family in 2016. I would also like to visit Ireland with my Irish aunt, and see more of Canada than just Niagara Falls.
In my free time, I like to watch anime, listen to music, and read books. My favorite book series is A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin (better known as Game of Thrones). I also love going to rock concerts when I have the time.
Although it may not seem like it from my interest in the Humanities, I actually live on a farm where I raise goats, rabbits, and ducks, more for fun than for profit. I absolutely adore animals! In addition to the farm animals, I have two dogs, a cat, and a parrot. Aside from tutoring, I also like to pet sit as an additional form of income. My main source of income comes from my part-time job at Regal Cinemas, where I have worked for almost two years now. I also have seasonal jobs at Spirit Halloween and the New Jersey Renaissance Faire.
Literature is one of my biggest passions, and learning new languages is a close second. Even if I cannot make my students fall in love with reading and writing, I hope to help them realize the beauty and value of the humanities.
