Certified Tutor

I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in cellular and molecular biology from Vanderbilt University. Throughout my college career, I've had extensive experience in teaching SAT and tutoring for college essays and applications. Prior to my entrance into Vanderbilt University, I was a student who did not understand the SAT and had an initial practice test score of 1520/2400. However, after several months of preparation, I achieved my ideal score. Thus, I understand the process of studying and developing strategies for the SAT and other standardized exams. I know these exams might seem like large hurdles, but with the right preparation and practice, anyone can reach their goal.

In addition to the SAT, I have worked with college students to prepare for their exams, especially Pre-Medical students with the MCAT and general courses in biology and psychology. I have also had experience working with kids in elementary and middle school. I am a part of the volunteer crew at the Monroe Carrell Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and was a team manager at Vanderbilt Student Volunteer of Science to teach middle school students various science lessons. I am passionate about teaching and am hoping to pursue an MD/ Ph.D. and becoming a part-time lecturer in the future.

In addition to teaching, I love to play tennis, volleyball, and rowing. I am also a big football fan. Throughout my four years in college, I worked in a molecular biology lab which investigated the DNA replication machinery. Thus, I am skilled in various biochemical and genetic techniques and would love to share my expertise with those who are interested in the field.

Currently, I am the executive assistant of Rayos Conta Cancer, a nonprofit organization founded in the Vanderbilt Medical Center that aim to improve radiation oncology treatment of cancer in Latin America. My favorite topics to teach is test prep. Primarily because standardized exams are the easiest ways to measure and see progress before and after a set of sessions. Additionally, due to the bell-curved nature of these assessments, I can more clearly identify the weakness of my clients and address them appropriately. Throughout my experiences in teaching, I often found that memorization does not always lead to the path to success. Thus, my philosophy to tutoring is to guide students to not only develop a thorough understanding of the underlying concepts but also hone their skill to apply their experience to various problems. Thus, come exam day, my students are more prepared to answer a wide range of questions. Additionally, I work with individuals to develop their unique study plan that best accommodates their timelines, goal, and personalities.

I am looking forward to meeting and working with anyone who wants to strengthen their weak suite and to develop a comprehensive method to do so accordingly!
