Science has excited and interested me since early middle school. Subjects such as chemistry and biology are so complex and have taught me critical thinking skills, deductive reasoning, and how to push myself to further understand difficult concepts. I had taken an honors chemistry course in high school that inspired me; I wanted to learn more about how the world works and how the smallest atoms could put together the vast world that we live in now. I took classes in college such as analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, etc. that showed me in-depth details of cells and atoms. I gained passion for laboratory experiments that allowed me to physically manipulate chemical reactions and helped take concepts from paper and put them to real-life applications. Performing research, setting up labs, and prepping chemicals for reactions all gave me the extensive knowledge to push forward and gain my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry.

During my undergraduate career, I began tutoring and supervising a few of the beginner science lab sections and courses throughout the week. I invited students to come to me with any questions that they might have during the three-hour lab periods or even after class in case they didnt understand something that they were introduced to in lecture. I hosted help sessions for anyone who needed them, and over the course of the year my same passion for science begin to develop in the eyes of the students who came to me for help. I was making a difference in these students academic career, and many of them thanked me at the end of each semester for being a good resource for them. I tutored for the second-half of undergraduate years and I could not have enjoyed my work more.

Throughout all of college I also worked as a peer mentor for the school orientation program. For one year I was a group leader whom would take short courses on leadership skills, situational assessment skills, and interpersonal relation skills. I applied what I learned in these sessions to a small-group environment in which we would introduce incoming first-year students to academic and social life at college. The following two years I was promoted up to the lead student organizer of the orientation program. I had become the student heading these leadership courses and taught fellow undergrads how to tailor their teaching and leadership styles to different students in their orientation groups. This experience helped me develop higher and more adaptive tutoring skills for me to use within an academic setting rather than a social setting.

My academic ability and dedication to aiding students in their understanding of science make me an ideal candidate for this tutoring opportunity. I look forward to working with individuals and creating a personalized tutoring experience for the advancement of their academic career.
