I am a longtime student of Classics who loves nothing more than to share my knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin. I received my B.A. in Classics from Dartmouth College. In 2013 I completed a Masters in Classics at UNC Chapel Hill, and I had been working towards a Ph.D. until I left the program this May in order to pursue my passion: elementary education and creative writing.

For the last eight years, I have worked with students of a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and ages in many different settings. I have taught undergraduate courses in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classical literature. My introductory courses combined a traditional, formal approach with oral drills and English-to-Latin translation; by thus actively using the language, my students strengthened their memory and their ability to apply their knowledge to new texts. My advanced courses involved students in interpretive debates through class discussion, readings in scholarship, and papers.

I have tutored privately at the high school and undergraduate levels, and in the summer of 2016 I tutored at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. There I taught a variety of language skills (pronunciation, reading and listening comprehension, writing, critical thinking) to students of all ages (mostly 6-10 years old), some with learning disabilities, in fast-paced sessions tailored to each students needs and interests. Games and hands-on activities were a central component of my lessons: fun engages students and inspires them to learn.

Though primarily trained in Latin and Greek, I've studied linguistics and several modern languages (Russian, Spanish, French) as well, so I can provide a broad perspective on the ancient languages. I can also help with Classical civilization courses (mythology, history, archaeology, art history). I have first-hand experience with material culture: for the 2015-2016 academic year I studied in an archaeological program in Greece, where I visited many sites and participated in an excavation at the site of Ancient Corinth.
