Evan: Plymouth tutor
Certified Tutor
I have enjoyed working with students as a high school and collegiate tutor in writing, english, math and statistics for over 12 years. In addition to tutoring, I also teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in public policy, research methods, stats, and energy policy and governance.
My goals for my clients are grounded in the belief that good teaching is a collaborative and responsive process rather than a purely directive one. As an instructor of statistics, research methods and public policy at UNC, I feel deeply responsible for upholding a standard of rigor and basic knowledge in assisting my students in reaching a new baseline in their understanding of the course material. My chief goal, however, is to push students beyond that baseline by instilling them with a sense of ownership and command over their coursework. To that end, my basic objective with each student is to identify the areas of discomfort and to move toward them in a goal-directed manner that is both encouraging and compassionate. This approach applies as well to tasks in writing and communication as it does to statistics and mathematical problem solving.
Clients will participate actively in designing a set of benchmarks and goals for our time together, including short and long-term objectives.
