I have been teaching in one form or another since 1998: from college students at Ohio State University, to aspiring authors at private workshops around the country, to my five teen children as they pursue their academic ambitions and head off to university.

I have a diverse background of expertise in all varieties of history, literature, creative writing, and the English language, as well as a sincere, caring teaching style that encourages students to confidently tackle problematic subjects.

I encourage broad scope understanding by breaking down big overarching themes until the big picture really comes into focus. I don't leave students with a fuzzy, general picture, nor do I dwell on rote memorization. Sometimes the best way to memorize facts is through specific examples, quirky facts, interesting individuals, and stories that have staying power.
