When taking classes that I found challenging such as Chemistry and BC Calculus, I ran into many concepts that were difficult to comprehend. I attempted to learn the material on my own by reading the textbook over and over again and by watching online videos. However, what I didn't do in high school was reach out for help. The few times that I did go to office hours, I found the extra teaching beyond helpful. My high school teachers and college professors knew exactly what I didn't understand and suggested many alternative methods for grasping the material. I realized that seeking help is by far one of the most effective ways to learning complicated and difficult topics.

These students on Varsity Tutors have already taken a step towards academic success by reaching out for help. After seeing how dedicated my teachers have been to making sure I fully understood the subject, I am inspired to be an outgoing, accommodating, and passionate tutor. As a visual learner, I plan to use diagrams and and graphs to learn. Because I place value on repetition, I have the patience to go over subjects multiple times.

As an art instructor for 12 students in a classroom setting at Renaissance Art Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland, I gained valuable teaching experience. I had to be extremely conscious about how I taught-- I used the students' art performances and confidence about painting to gauge whether I should adjust my teaching style or not. It is important to recognize that everyone has different ways of learning and it is critical to cater teaching styles to each student.

With my previous teaching experience, open-minded attitude, and determination to help students learn, I hope to be an excellent tutor.
