I am a graduate of the Univeristy of Central Florida, with my B.S. in Biotechnology and minor in Biomedical Sciences. I was involved in Pre-Pharmacy, and American Society of Microbiology. I have also been apart of the EXCEL program, which is an academic program for students who are majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. I specialize in Biology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Chemistry and Math. My goal is to get to know each student, and their way of learning because every student learns differently!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to have patience. Each student I work with learns differently, and I want to make sure my style of teaching molds to each student. I am willing to work with different styles to make sure the student knows the information inside and out.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My first session with a student is to get to know that student, what they are struggling with, what they are good at and the ways they learn best. Is it visual? Or are they better at going through example problems? Do they like games? I am willing to work with each student, learn about them and use their strengths to combat their weaknesses.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
A job of a tutor is not just to teach the material to a student, but to help them develop techniques for them to study by themselves. Maybe that is having them create study guides, teaching them effective note taking, and having them learn how to create tests themselves so they are better prepared.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Being a senior in college, I know motivation is a key to studying. Ways to stay motivated are for the student to develop personal goals for themselves, having the student look at the big picture, and to set up a studying schedule that works with the student so they do not become too overwhelmed. Taking breaks are important!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If there is a concept the student can not grasp, take it little by little. Start with the general idea of what you are actually trying to accomplish, and then start from the beginning. Make sure the student understands each little step. Getting the student in the habit of understanding a concept is more important than the student just memorizing.
