What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning science should be fun and interactive, but also offer insight and purpose.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask them what they do to prepare for an exam. Take a look at the strategies they use. Look at their relationship with science - has it been positive or negative?

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I think incentives can help - so helping the child create a schedule and list of things they enjoy. When they have done the independent learning, then they can check off the organizer and do their fun activity guilt free. Perhaps the parents can also get involved in helping with the incentive.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Find ways to make the material seem or appear exciting or unique. When students get a slight hook into a lesson, they are more likely to buy in; if there is not a connection, then the draw is weak.
