I believe the most important thing a teacher/tutor can do is to keep the student(s) engaged with the material. In my experience, boring and uninterested teachers in turn created boring and uninterested students in their classes. A tutor/teacher has to have lots of patience and enthusiasm, two skills I have when it comes to the subject of English.

I especially feel satisfied when people are able to understand my thinking and techniques when it comes to reading and writing. Simply fixing errors is unhelpful and does nothing to instill confidence in a struggling student. Instead, showing lots of examples and getting the student to understand what mistakes they're making is what helps them the best and when gets them on their own two feet.

My passion for English stems from my passion for reading. As a child, I loved reading novels and now as an adult, I love reading about non-fiction. This has helped me become naturally gifted at reading comprehension and writing. I've never had difficulty articulating myself, and I would love to transfer my English skills over to a struggling student.

Teaching is another genuine passion of mine. I graduated from CSUSB Cum Laude with an English major (linguistics focus) and I will be working towards my teaching certificate for high school English at CSUSB in the Fall quarter. Until then, I look forward to working with students that need my help.
