What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that successful teaching and learning experiences walk side by side where communication is essential. I foster a teacher-student relationship based on mutual respect and the recognition that teaching-learning is an ongoing two ways process. I understand how important to young minds is to feel valued and treated as an individual while encouraging them to constantly improve. It implies a commitment to innovation and implementation of a variety of learning techniques, being approachable, friendly and honest so the classroom can become a comfortable place for all.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
On my first tutoring session, I focus on getting to know my student and his/her expectation. I will assess my student's needs, strengths, and learning style so I know where to begin instruction. Knowing where my student needs to be, or where he/her would like to go, is the foundation for a personalized work plan.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I used to provide the right tools and let the students do the work as a first step to help him/her to become an independent learner. By giving control of the process to the student, I will encourage active learning and increase my student's self-confidence.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help my student stay motivated by emphasizing my recognition to his/her efforts. Getting him/her actively involved while fostering participation and sense of ownership of his/her own learning. Being creative by changing around the structure of my class regularly. Finally, drawing connections to real life showing that a subject is used everyday by real people.
