What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I present the material in varied means to ensure understanding.
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe the fundamental goal of teaching is to create an environment conducive to learning. Learning takes place in a variety of formats that differ for each individual. The single most important aspect of learning is the student's desire. This desire leads to skills mastery and acceptance of new concepts. By creating an environment that accommodates various learning styles, the students are engaged and experience the passion of the teacher through the unique presentation of curriculum and stimulating activities. Displaying passion and knowledge through discussions, activities, and personal interactions with students increases their confidence in the instruction and fosters a willingness to learn through the various learning modules. My job, as an instructor, is to respect students and create an environment that motivates individuals to learn. My desire to teach is driven by my desire to help others through hope, visions, and guiding principles. I demonstrate my passion for the subject matter through encouraging an open communication environment that stimulates discussions, curiosity, and easy to understand material. I treat the subject matter as a link to the real world. I correlate the material to real-life experiences, careers, and current events. This helps to develop personal worldviews. Many students are actively dealing with life experiences and presenting relevant information creates an interest in both the material and real world events. The most important concepts I hope to share with students is that learning is an ongoing process. For me, the learning process includes improving myself professionally and continuing to challenge personal and professional growth.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
