What is your teaching philosophy?
I find out where the student needs the most help and concentrate on that area.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Establish a good student to teacher contact and convince the student that she can improve her Math scores with my help. Take a specific Math problem and show the student how to solve it, and then have the student solve a similar problem by herself to increase her confidence.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching the student that Math is not hard, and as he/she learns, they will be become more independent.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will encourage and praise the student whenever they need it, and I will make sure that they go forward at just at the right speed so they do not get disheartened.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Review the fundamentals and pinpoint the details of the skill the student is not understanding. Take easy examples that formulate that skill, and slowly add more complexity until the student feels at ease.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Work on word problems. Show the student that it is important to read the text and transform it to a Math equation. The student will learn by following my example.
