What prompted you to seek tutoring?

I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

The first time I decided I wanted to start tutoring, I wasn't even in this country. I was in Spain, in the homestretch of my year abroad. By sheer luck, I came into contact with a small foreign language institute in Taroudant, Morocco. About a month later, I was on my way to teach English as a second language to native Arabic speakers. At the time, did I speak Arabic? Not at all. When I entered the classroom I was nervous, and I must admit, a little shaky. Once I saw the light-bulbs going off in my students' heads for the first time, I knew that tutoring was for me. From there on, it was all about connecting with my students, making class something they could get excited about, and doing everything in my power to make the concepts click in their brains (even if it meant making a fool out of myself).

Now, I'm in Tallahassee, Florida. I'm a double major at FSU in Editing, Writing, and Media and International Affairs. If you're from the area, you'll probably catch me reading on a blanket on Landis Green, grabbing a coffee at the Sweet Shop, or studying in Strozier Library. I think what helps me connect with my students the most is the fact that I am a student myself. I understand the struggle, I've learned how to push past it, and I'd love to pull you along with me.

Hobbies

I have a semi-unhealthy interest in traveling, although on the upside I do come with some interesting stories! Besides that, I love to read (non-fiction and poetry especially), write, go on nature walks, and swim in the ocean, rivers, lakes, you name it! One of my biggest hobbies is blogging, although it is still a work in progress.
