Natasha
Certified Tutor
I believe that every person can get better at their task if they put their mind to it. I am a fifth year teacher who has taught both social studies and language arts at the middle school level. I've tutored at the elementary and adult levels, as well. My goal as a tutor is to help and guide students where they need/want to be. I want to know that my students understand the subject or topic at hand. As a teacher already, I know how to make connections and meaning to the topic and can help guide others into understanding, as well. I am driven to helping others accomplish their goal no matter how many sessions it takes, because that is my job.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My goal is to educate, help create critical thinkers, and provide a positive learning environment for all students I come in contact with.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
At a typical first session, I would talk to the student so that I could get to know them more personally, as well as understand their strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Letting them practice on their own!
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Reminding them of their goals and the purpose of their education.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Model the assignment into smaller sections, and reteach material if necessary.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Read aloud, model good reading strategies, and then have them mimic what I do.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know them first!
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Try to make as many practical and personal connections to the material as possible.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Quizzes, games, questions, and tests.
