What is your teaching philosophy?

I see myself as a student and a teacher who excels by doing. Through experiential learning, I think students are more apt to pick up difficult and abstract topics.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

With new students, I like to introduce myself, get to know each other, share a bit of our backgrounds, and begin to understand what it is that the student hopes to achieve in tutoring sessions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I think students are most able to become independent learners through engaging problems with tutors, and then using the tools they learned in a tutoring session to attempt new problems on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I think connecting with students about shared interests, popular culture, and the relevancy of their work to today's needs helps the most with motivation.
