What is your teaching philosophy?
As a student-parent, I have faced many hurdles throughout my education. However, I believe you can truly conquer any obstacle you are faced with. I want to help students overcome their difficulties and succeed.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get acquainted with them, and understand what obstacles or difficulties they are facing academically.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Provide them with strategies to use to solve their problems that they can then adapt and apply them on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Constant encouragement, and reminding them that they have come this far. Why stop now?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Talk to them in order to have them explain what it is they do not understand. Then, I would guide them through the problem they are dealing with and help them come up with a strategy to solve and understand the problem, concept, etc.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Read the material out loud, and then go back and read the material again, paragraph by paragraph. After each paragraph, make a summary of what happened or what the main point is before you move on.
