I will first start by saying that my degree is actually in geology, I graduated from UTSA a few years ago. However, french is my native language and I also passed the french content test administered by TEA.
I taught french 1 at Alamo Heights Junior School in San Antonio Texas for a year and I just loved teaching those students. They all have different personalities and ways to learn, getting to know them was part of the fun.
I like to learn languages, I learned English at school and I have some notions of Spanish, however, nowadays I am trying to learn Korean.
In my spare time I enjoy watching movies.
To my future students, I am looking forward to working with you and helping you achieve your goals in French.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Teaching is the door which leads to the opportunity of shaping minds. Not only through my content area which is French, but also through concepts of life. Installing principles such as respecting each other, being considerate of each other, helping each other, and persevering through difficulties are important for kids to be successful, not only in their academic careers, but also in their daily lives. Being a teacher involves a lot more than just the content in which you are an expert; it is a passion in which I strive to do better on a daily basis. Building relationships with my students is the first step to being able to enhance their learning. We should all focus on making our children better and unique individuals that will contribute to the growth of our society.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would first have us introduce ourselves, then I would ask the student for his goals, then I would ask the student to tell me the areas he or she feels strong in and those in which he or she doesn't. We can then come up with a plan on the material to review.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would give explanations rather than just giving an answer. That way the student will know how to approach a question.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I like to tell students that the keys to learning any languages are perseverance and patience. Don't worry, we will get there.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would reteach it using a different method.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would tell them to break it down. Go sentence-by-sentence and highlight keywords, then from those keywords try to understand the text one sentence at a time.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would try to make connections with everyday life so that they can see the actual use for it.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would ask them to be the teacher and explain it to me.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By positive reinforcement and pointing out what they did well!
