What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in a varied instruction method that combines visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning strategies. I find that covering material in a variety of ways helps to make it memorable.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would spend time learning about the student and share some information about myself to build rapport. I would also ask questions to learn the student's skill level and review what they have been learning in school. I can use that information to create lessons that will be most effective for that particular student.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
One of my favorite methods is to have a student reteach a lesson to me. Studies show that reteaching something to another person is one of the most effectives methods for retaining that information. It also helps to build the student's confidence about the subject matter. Confidence is the key to becoming an independent learner.
