Mitul
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate from NYIT with a degree in Life Sciences Biology applying to medical schools. I have prior experience tutoring at Kumon, teaching elementary and middle school students a wide range of topics in math, reading comprehension and writing. I have a passion for science and mathmatics and understand that these may be topics many students dislike. I aim to help students by using examples from the real world as well as other techniques that make it easier for the student to appreciate and understand these topics.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Make the material easy to understand and interesting for the student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Ask to see where they are in their subject matter and what topics give them the most difficulty. From that I would try to give them a few practice problems, and see why they might be struggling with that topic and how they approach the problems.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can try and teach them the importance of studying on-the-go, and the importance of using their free time for their benefit.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by showing them how better grades will lead to a more confident and well-rounded version of themselves.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would give the student a few practice problems in that topic and see where in their thinking process they seem to be making their mistake, and show them a better method.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
With a student struggling with reading comprehension, I would ask them what their hobby is, be it sports, technology, etc. From this I would ask them to read a few articles on a website or journal based off this topic, and by doing so they could learn to like to read as well.
