What is your teaching philosophy?

Teaching must be hands on, relatable, and applicable to the real world. Every student should have a purpose for learning the material presented in class. Students should be able to take what they learned in the classroom and use it outside school in their daily lives.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would ask students what they struggle in the most, whether it is the specific subject, lesson, or just one specific problem. I will also ask them what their favorite subject is and what they enjoy doing outside school. When the student and teacher have a strong relationship, the more likely the student will succeed with the content.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by making the student feel confident in the material. I can provide students with the skills and techniques to make them become better learners, and guide them in the direction so they can regulate their own learning.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

When students can make connections between the material and something outside the classroom, they can see the relevance in the material and see the purpose. Having students make connections will help them stay motivated and more likely to retain the information.
