Vivek: Petaluma tutor
Certified Tutor
I enjoy tutoring, because I know how to build strong relationships with students of all grade levels. From my experience as a high school math tutor for the Long Beach Unified School District, I learned how to explain concepts and ideas in relation to the strengths of each student. As an undergraduate at UCLA, I also gained valuable experience as a tutor for Project Literacy, a volunteer service program in which we tutored math, reading and writing to underprivileged elementary school students in the greater Los Angeles area. My schedule is very flexible with timings. I am typically available about 10-12 hours a week for the next 15 months. I am available to tutor between 1PM-3PM from Monday-Friday and late evenings as well.

What is your teaching philosophy?
No one is perfect, but we can improve by turning our weaknesses into strengths.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will help students learn and utilize concepts to take on any problem.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will always try different methods for each individual, because not everyone learns the same way.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I will tie it in to relevant experiences that we go through on a daily basis.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I can confirm if a student understands the material if he/she can explain the concept to me.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Discuss goals and make a plan on how to achieve them.
