Teaching has always been a passion and a goal of mine, as through my experiences I have found that it is both enjoyable and fulfilling. I received my BS in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the University of Tennessee, followed by my MS and PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Since then I have been blessed to follow my own path of research in functional neuroimaging (studying brains) while also having many opportunities to train and guide students along the way. I have experience teaching in a personal one-on-one setting as well as in a classroom setting. Courses I have taught include Biomedical Imaging, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, and Human Factors Engineering. I have also worked with students from a variety of places and of different ages, ranging from elementary school to graduate students. Aside from my career, I am blessed to have two boys, which take up much of my time. I enjoy reading, swimming, cooking, and spending time with friends. I also teach Sunday school on a part-time basis at our church. I love new experiences, such as travel, and do my best to continue my own personal development and education whenever possible.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching style is to involve the students as much as possible in the learning process, to teach with enthusiasm while trying to make the material as applicable and relevant to the student as possible, and to be flexible and fair-minded in the teaching process. I feel that learning should be a collaborative process between the student and the teacher, thereby giving the student a sense of ownership and responsibility in learning the material, rather than the traditional.
