Katie
Certified Tutor
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama in my junior year double majoring in Secondary Education Mathematics and Mathematics. While in school, I have had the opportunity to work as a math tutor for local middle school students through the America Reads and Counts Tutoring program. My goal, both as a tutor and a future teacher, is to make math as enjoyable as I can for my students. I believe that a strong math foundation provides students with critical thinking and problem solving skills that will aid them, not only in the classroom, but in all aspects of their lives. In my free time I love spending time outside hiking and camping, as well as watching or playing any and all sports, especially football!

What is your teaching philosophy?
As an educator, I believe that every student has the right and ability to learn at a high level. I recognize that all students are gifted differently and need to receive instruction differently; in a way that best suits their learning style. It is my goal for students to successfully develop their own understanding as they work with the material. I strive to set high expectations, but always provide the tools and encouragement for students to be successful.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
It is important for me to get to know each student that I work with in order for me to better assist them. So during the first session, I would get to know the student a little bit (interests, hobbies, etc.) and find out where they are in the subject we will be working on together.
