I enjoy helping people understand material that they struggle with on their own. Each individual learns differently and there are multiple ways for people to solve a problem. With this in mind I am sure that once we understand the basic concepts and build a solid foundation it is possible to to build from there and understand the concept at hand and you will be able to understand the subject matter at hand.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that each student requires an individual lesson plan that allows them to create a strong foundation in order to learn topics that they struggle with.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

My first session would begin with a few question that help judge what topics the student struggles with and what topics the student needs little guidance in, and from there we can begin to create a foundation to use on the harder topics.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

They best way to help a student become an independent learner is to allow them to answer the questions on their own and then have them explain what they did.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

In order to help a student stay motivated I would use positive reinforcement in order to insure that they are confident in their work.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

In order to help solve a difficulty skill or concept I would return to the basics, then from there we would build up to the difficult problem.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

To help people who are struggling with reading comprehension I would help students by having them read everything that they could get their hands on, and from there we would discuss what it was about.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found that working with the students and not forcing them to out of their comfort zone leads to the greatest results.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would help get students excited and engaged in a subject that they are struggling in by showing them that they are able to solve the problem at hand by breaking it down in to parts that they understand.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would quiz the student over techniques that they learned at the previous session before we would begin the next session.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would build confidence in a student in a subject by using positive reinforcement, and then I would have them do problem that I know they could solve on their own.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate a student's needs by first asking them what they need help with and then asking them various questions over the subject matter in order to judge any other needs that they might have.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt to my student's needs by making sure that their progress is at a comfortable rate for them and that they are not scared to move on to the next topic.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The materials that I would use during the tutoring session would include any problems and questions that the student brings, problems that I have found at various sources, and lastly any problems that I might come up with during the session.
