Math is a universal language. Regardless of one's ethnicity, background, culture, or nation, math is one language that transcends man's instinctive nature of classification. It connects each and every person in an attempt to understand the world that surrounds them. Equipped with numerous methods, yet grounded by finite answers, math builds upon a person's need to build relationships, creating bridges across any division. It is this "human" aspect of mathematics that intrigues me the most. Arriving at the same answer through so many different possible approaches, math intrigues me through its ability to emphasize commonalities, respect differences, and embrace varied methods.
Due to my personal love of reading, writing, and analytical thinking, I strive daily to keep my mind engaged and challenged through the constant consumption of information from several sources. These passions outside of academia prove to be my ultimate resource within academia, allowing me the ability to cultivate and cherish bonds between topics and fields that appear to be worlds apart from one another. I yearn to learn all there is about math, while being compelled to convey to others the powerful and captivating aspects that will ultimately serve as a key to unlock potential goals for their future. My thirst for knowledge in advanced mathematics drives me to provide my students with a powerfully gripping understanding of how mathematics can be engaging, entertaining, and enlightening. My in-depth knowledge of aspects of physics, chemistry, and sociology also allows me to connect mathematics to many other concentrations, aiding in grounding mathematics to relating and tangible ideas that proves tantamount in nourishing a student's appreciation for the field.
The moment I decided to dedicate my life to the education and development of students' mathematical abilities, I sought to employ a unique and unorthodox pedagogy within my classrooms. It is a well-known understanding that students tend to excel in fields that they find popular and appealing in today's society. By amplifying the beauty within each topic of mathematics as it is being taught, a student will feel connected to the material, thus easing the apprehension of learning new concepts. Building a student's confidence in their ability, especially with mathematics, aids in the instructor's main duty of teaching, while also contributing to that student's ability and overall psyche. Through a rich combination of assessments, lectures, and supplemental assignments, the students in a mathematics class can have an optimized and powerful experience, while simultaneously creating an optimistic atmosphere for the students to cultivate when moving forward to other mathematics courses.
