I am a licensed teacher of English, speech, and drama, having taught English and speech in secondary schools for over 15 years and English composition at the college level for twelve years. I earned my B.S. from Indiana University and my Master's Degree from Purdue University. I enjoy working one-on-one with students, and I have a passion for teaching. In the past I have tutored for Sylvan Learning Center and Educate Online. My tutoring areas are writing, essay editing, grammar, mechanics, college essays, and public speaking. I enjoy tutoring each of these areas. My hobbies include music (playing keyboard) and video editing. In the past I have made short films with friends, and I even completed a full-length amateur movie.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in learning by doing. This especially applies to writing. I have found that I can lecture and give endless directions about how to write, but it means very little unless I work with the student as he or she practices that skill.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student and try to find out what unique learning style he or she has, as well as what specific skills they are trying to learn, to polish or to improve upon.
