Angel: Renton tutor
Certified Tutor
I am in my final year of classes at the University of Central Florida. I have spent four years of my life working towards a Bachelor's degree in Digital Media Web Design. I have taken great classes and worked with some great professors. They know how to make me passionate about my field of study and education, and I want to share that passion with students of all ages.
In high school I helped numerous peers with their classes. In middle school I helped tutor elementary school students as well, so I have always loved helping people with their academics. These experiences have influenced the kind of approach I take to tutoring, which focuses on patience and understanding information on a step by step level. In high school I participated in the IB program, took five AP tests, and did Dual Enrollment. My coursework in high school prepared me greatly for college and helped me become a great student. Some of the subjects I tutor are French, Algebra, English, and Web Languages. I have a particular affinity for French and love the study of that language.
I have a variety of interests for my spare time. I enjoy making websites and developing my skills with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP. I study and critically consume films and tv shows, and I go to community events for the game Super Smash Bros.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I think the most important trait for an educator to have is patience. Every student understands different concepts at differing paces, so it is imperative that an educator is flexible. The educators should also make sure that a student has a strong foundation in understanding the material.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session I want to gauge a variety of aspects with a student. It is important that I know the current level of the student with the material. The next step is to find out the student's preferences for how they like to learn.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The key to having students learn independently is that they have to be motivated and engaged by the material. I would try to help the student find an approach to the subject that fits their interests or preferences. Making the subject fun or interesting is incredibly important.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Students feel motivated to continue their learning if they feel like they are making progress. Students that see a noticeable growth in their skill and understanding will appreciate the time they have spent learning the material.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
When students are having difficulty with a skill or concept, it is important for the educator to find a different approach. Students are capable of understanding anything eventually. The information just has to be presented in a way that fits the sensibilities of the students.
