I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I'm an artist, writer, and tutor, currently living in Brooklyn and applying to PHD programs. I have a deep passion for French-the culture, the sounds, and even the grammar! I love to teach it and speak it. In addition, I've been studying art history for around nine years, in high school and in college. My current research combines 19th century French literature, history, and art history, and I couldn't be happier to be able to use my interests to teach!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Find the interest! If the student is enthused and excited about the topic and the method, learning doesn't feel like work. I pride myself on molding myself to the needs and interests of my students in order to provide a more joyful and more effective learning experience.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I like to take a few minutes to get to know the student's interests and desires for the tutoring. I want to learn what the student loves so that I can try to integrate that into the lesson. Those interests often give us a starting point to jump into the lesson.
